Here's is what keeps me up at night

When I'm ready to wind down and relax for the day, usually around 8:30 or 9:00, I turn the TV on and knit.

We usually watch either Turner Classic Movies or the Cooking channel, but now that we're in the holiday season, I've been turning to the Hallmark channel to watch all the Christmas shows.

Here is my WIP.  I'm knitting a hat in the round.  It's so easy because when it's in the round, all knitted rows turn into stocking net without 1 purl row.  Love it!

The beige and brown band is a wool blend and the blue yarn is a soft mohair blend.

This will turn into a cap.  I want to knit a flower for it which is something I haven't tried yet, but this design is so simple, a flower will be the perfect accessory.

My clearance sale is going full steam, check out what I have left in my etsy shop.  All my jewelry is marked 25% off to make room for the new year.

Completed my first cowl

Cowl are very popular this year.
Here is my first cowl.  It was very easy and fast to make.
It is knitted in the round, lengthwise.  Some rows I knitted and some rows I purled.

I used angel hair yarn which is very soft on my neck.  I love the blend of beige, white and blue.

Gift shopping ? My etsy shop jewelry is all marked 25% off!

Jewelry I've been working on

I'm making some new jewelry designs that I will place into my Etsy studio soon.

I'm having an Inventory Clearance sale first.
I have marked all my jewelry 25% off.

I've been having fun with a new bracelet format that I haven't used before.
I'm working on my third color series.
The way the bracelet is worn changes the look of the bracelet.

If you keep the pretty magnetic clasp on top the bracelet becomes two toned.
If you keep the magnetic clasp on the bottom, the sparkly side sits on top and looks like a one style bangle.
if it spins on your wrist it's all fun, all changing. :)

Kittens are ready

Our kittens are now 7 1/2 weeks old.
I still see them nursing now and then but they eat dry crunchies and soft canned with gusto.
I think they are ready for loving homes.
Every single kitten is curious, filled with energy, playful (with each other mostly) and cute as buttons.

There are 3 black kittens, one male and two females.  In this photo you can see that G. has created a full playground for them.  In fact, there are even more toys that aren't even in the photo.

There are 2 black and whites, one male and one female.

Their eyes are still kitten blue but they'll turn green soon.

Jewel of the Sea

At the Ohio Beaders retreat we also have a gift exchange.  Names are drawn and kept secret until the actual exchange.

The name I was given belongs to a woman who spent a good part of the summer on a tropical island so I wanted to make something to give her a fond memory of her delightful summer.
I tried to capture the color of sea to sand and the waves flowing into the beach.
Here is what I came up with.  I've named it Jewel of the Sea.

I made her a ring to go with it - just for fun.  I have no idea what her ring size is so I can only hope it fits one of her fingers.
I liked it so much I made a second one but I used different sparkly beads so they are not identical - I will be posting it on my Etsy site as soon as I get a chance.

Goodie Bag Treats

I'll be going to the Beaders Retreat soon and have my treats ready for the goodie bags.

22 women that have an obsession with all things beady will join together for a weekend and have no other distractions but to eat, sleep and bead.
We will each get a goodie bag - each woman will bring a treat to add to the goodie bags.   There are no expectations on cost of the treat we are to bring, just bring something to add to the bag.

Vendors have also made contributions to our goodie bags and we totally appreciate every item.

Here is my treat all wrapped up and ready for giving.
a little closer look shows I made each one a flower out of seed beads, a ceramic butterfly and a ceramic heart.  Each flower was made using different color beads - no two are alike so it was as much fun to make as it will be to receive.
I am so excited for this mini vacation I am ready to burst.

One Bad Apple

We went apple picking last weekend.  The weather was slightly cool, the sun was at an angle that you just knew it was Autumn and perfect for the task at hand.
We started early enough in the morning that the sun had not yet dried up all the dew.

The orchard we went to is large so we had to take a wagon ride to the location where the apples were ready to pick.
Trees were bursting with apples,

of course we had to sample to make sure the apples were perfect.

but you had to pick carefully.  Many of the apples already had been chosen by unwanted visitors.
If you look close enough you can see the little worm working his way in.
Can you imagine not paying attention to the little hole in your apple and taking a great big BITE.  YUM

Create Your Own Clasp Challenge

Every 2 - 3 months the Ohio Beaders Group I belong to have a group challenge.  The July - Sept. challenge was "Create Your Own Clasp".  The only guideline was
The entire clasp must be made by you.  No premade parts such as buttons.

I took my inspiration from the Bead & Button Magazine Book - Creative Beading Vol. 6. The selection is called Floral Inspiration.

As you can see the flower is the clasp !  It was my first try at St. Petersburg Chain and I really like the outcome.
Our challenge winner is going to be decided by Art Beads employees.
I've got my fingers crossed, but honestly, Ohio Beaders is such a talented group of artists, I don't stand a chance. lol.

I will post the link to all the entries - and the winner - as soon as it is up.

Last Days of Summer Bracelet

This is a wrist lariat.
It just loops over the lampwork bead to close around your wrist.
I love the colors in this. It feels so summery - my last grab at summer's colors for this year.

Go Cart a Go Go

We went on go carts the other night and had a blast!
Here is what it looks like from the drivers seat.

That is Gary up ahead of me - you can see him peeking his head around.
He kept trying to bump into me on the track so I had to keep going faster which was scary but thrilling!

New Tea Cup

My sweet sis gave me a small china set of the darling pattern.

Isn't funny how tea can taste so much better when it's in a proper cup.

Cleansing Necklace

I just listed this on my Etsy site recently but I'm not sure anyone will understand it enough to like it.
The black dots slowly fade away to the right.
My idea was of a cleaning or clearing out of the negative.
It doesn't translate as well as I expected.

Putt Putting around

We played another round of putt putt and I beat Gar by 2 strokes AGAIN!
it just makes him crazy.
I love it.

Locket and Key

I've made a few new pieces for my Etsy site.
I love the little locket in this necklace, and the big key that goes with it.

I've been working on my gift exchange bracelet for our Beaders Retreat but I don't want to show it until after the retreat since it's a surprise.

Octoberfest

We went to the Octoberfest last weekend.
I have to admit, I drank one too many beers and didn't feel very well the next day.
I was having so much fun, I didn't realize I was drinking too much.

They have this human german clock that goes off every hour and the humans go around and do skits and dances.  Then they throw out prizes.  We got a t-shirt last year.
We were under the big tent listening to the World Famous Cleveland POPS Orchestra and it started pouring rain.
So we started chatting it up with the people around us and every once in awhile someone would run out into the rain and bring back more beer.......

We finally made it to the big hall and listened to a great band called the Stone Ponies... and it kept raining but we didn't seem to mind.

We finally had to walk to our car in the rain, but by that time, I didn't care if I was getting wet. lol.  (I wasn't driving)

Gorgeous Wall Art

For my daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner, we ate at Moe's.
It sounds odd, but Moe's restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls has wonderful food and great service.
Our group was put in the upstairs rooms that used to be an apartment.

There was a wall hanging there that was beautiful.  It had bright colors and plenty of sparkly sequence.  I would have liked to take it with me.  Someday, I'll make one like this for myself.

I already posted the other photo's from the rehearsal on Monday.
I missed putting this one up on the blog.

Olmsted Falls Heritage Days

The Berea Grindstone Knitters Guild that I belong to had a table at Yarn Knits by Sue for our town's Heritage Days.
We rotated 2 hour sits at our table.  We sold raffle tickets for the group afghan we knitted together - 20 out of the 38 members each knitting a square.

We also encouraged everyone that knits or wants to knit to join our group.
It's a fun bunch of women.  The more I knit, the more I enjoy it.

Taqueria Junction - the good, the bad and the ugly

We have a new restaurant in our town.  We watched and waited while the building was remodeled anxiously waiting and hoping that Taqueria had something to do with tequila.
and we were right !   This is the back wall of the bar  - lighted up with tequila !
it's a beautiful thing.

The little buzz I get when drinking tequila is very different from gin or rum - a mellow kind of buzz.  as long as I don't drink too much of it :)

There's just once small problem with the restaurant management.
They don't see the problem with charging $8 for a cocktail with only 1 ounce of alcohol and yet have the nerve to serve salsa and chips in a paper bag and plastic cup with a lid.  There were 3 of us couples sitting at the bar - total strangers - the other couples ordered the snacks.  When the paper bags were thrown in front of them, we were shocked and began discussing it together.
One of the couples called over the manager to advise them how insulting it was to be served like this.  He said they want to serve at a neighborhood level and keep it casual.
One of them was having mussels and asked for a roll to go with them and was told they don't give out rolls with the mussels.  He quietly kept eating, but there is one less customer.

I can tell the Taqueria Junction that from past history, if the neighborhood isn't treated nicely, we will stop showing up.  Put the chips and salsa in a bowl - or drop your drink prices down to the paper bag level, otherwise, the customers willing to pay the $8 will stop coming and the customers willing to accept a paper bag will not pay $8 for a drink.

The first night we ate at Taqueria Junction, the food was delicious.  So we went back the following Friday night for dinner.   Our dinner came out cold - for this time, we chalked it down to an extremely busy night.  We plan on giving them another chance during the week when it won't be so busy.

I sure hope they do a better job when we come back.

Putt Putt

We played our annual putt putt game.
It's a summer event for us. We have to go at least once every year.

This used to be such a big family sport in our area, it's sad to see the putt putt places are frequented less and less every year.  why is that?  kids love to play.

Oh, and I won by 2 strokes!!!

August Slips Away

July and August were a busy months for me.  I didn't have a lot of work preparing for my daughter's wedding since she did the majority of the planning, but the stress of it and the hot days of summer kept me away from my blog.

I managed to take a couple photos during dress rehearsal for the wedding.
She didn't stop smiling the whole weekend.
