Home again.

I got home yesterday afternoon, but I was so tired from travel and training that all I wanted to do was relax and sit by the fire with Gary. A package arrived yesterday just about the same time I got home. It was my second prize winning from the OneWorldOneHeart give away. I will have a picture put up tomorrow. It was a set of precious ATC's and an ATC holder from Anna at Anna-World. Show and tell tomorrow.

I've met a new blogger Sara at Fabric n Fiber Fanatic. She's got a great blog going and she introduced me to a fun site. It's called 'A Year in Bread'. The concept is this group of three is going to teach how to bake bread to those of us who want to learn. Three bakers, twelve months, thirty-six recipes of all kinds of different breads.
They just started up on March 21 and the first lesson is on pizza dough so it's not too late to join in. Start reading from the bottom and you'll catch up on all their talking about quickly. It sounds like a lot of fun. I've added their link to the right side for easy access to the site.

Here I am in a hotel room in Albany, NY. I can't download my pictures from my camera to my laptop because it won't install the download drivers. The training class is going great but hotel living isn't very exciting. I get up at 6:00 to get to the fitness room before the two treadmills get filled. then it's off to the training class. Afterwards a quick meal and then what.... I went to Borders after dinner tonight, but I did't want to buy anything because there is no room in my suitcase to pack anything else. so... back to the tiny room, turn on the tube. On the good side, I get back and there's clean towels waiting for me and the bed is made. There's fresh coffee waiting to be brewed and I haven't had to wash any dishes.

I've already received one of the two prizes I won from the OneWorldOneHeart giveaway. It's a darling wristlet purse from Stephanie.
Thank you so much Stephanie. She creates a lot of cute purses, check out her site when you have a chance!

The birds have been cutting the tops off our tall grass for days now. We can only figure they are nesting and the feather tops make a soft layer for their expectant eggs. It's so fun to see them work.
Sometimes they work in pairs. Or one will sit on the roof and keep a watchful eye while the other scavenges.

Our crocuses our popping ! YES! we made it. Are these winters getting longer - or am I just more impatient to get to the warmer weather. I think it's the latter.

The bunnies around here must be very hungry after all that snow we had. Their eating my flower top, and I didn't even get a chance to see them. Those waskly wabbits!

When I visited my daughter in Phoenix last month we went to a pottery shop and painted. I had to leave before they could fire the greenware so she brought it home to me. I had an idea of how it would turn out but you can't tell the true colors until the paint is fired. Here is what I did. I used a snowflake on the front because my jewelry craft is named 'Snowflake Arts'. I just love these colors.

On the side view, you can see I decorated with swirlies and dots down the handle. I changed the color on the inside and put a row of dots inside also to keep it whimsical.AND it works. it holds coffee !

My forsythia are finally starting to bud. It's a sure sign of spring for us here in Ohio. I'm envious of those that are already enjoying their cherry blossoms and spring flowers. I can't wait.

My tulips are also waking up. Last fall Gary planted some tulips in my veggie garden. We'll dig the bulbs when it's warm enough to plant the veggies - the flowers will be long gone by then. You can see behind the tulip, I have some wild mint creeping in. I really like the spark that mint adds to cooking. Some like it - some don't.

If you look in the center of this last photo, you will see my alarm clock. This little guy insisted on singing by my bedroom window this morning. I gotta admit - it's a wonderful way to wake up.

What a way to start Spring!!! Yesterday's OneWorld giveaway was so much fun. I won two prizes yesterday. Stephanie from RodrigvitzStyle drew my name for one of her darling wristlet purses and Anna from Anna's World drew my name for one of her ATC holders with 3 beautiful ATC's included. Thank you soooo much for drawing my name!

The rest of this month (what's left of it) is going to be very busy so I won't have time to do any more beadwork. I'm going to Albany, NY on a business trip all next week. I'll be able to keep up on my blog and all my blog hopping, it'll just put a cramp on my playtime beadwork. I will bring my camera, it'll make a fun travel log.

Gary and I have decided to join a Fitness Center. I love my treadmill - I'll still maintain that on the days I don't go to the Center, but we'll be able to include weight machines, swimming and Raquet Ball. not sure how to spell it, but we both like to play it. Hopefully it'll help motivate us to get stronger and healthier. If it doesn't work, we just won't sign up again and I'll go back to my treadmill and workout tapes.

It's been such a fun giveaway. the anticipation was soooo exciting. My daughter is in town visiting from Phoenix, so I had a guest helper. My camera wasn't working good tonight- my flash wouldn't work so I used my candlelight setting.

First she cut out lots and lots of names, then insisted they all get folded the same.

We put them all together in a pretty little basket.

Then she reached up and picked not one but two names!

Two lovely ladies won this evening. Here they are.....

and here is what they won....
Sandy won the book thong and keychain to the left. Leigh Ann won the book thong to the right. and they will both receive another trinket I made for them, danglies - some use them on cell phones, others use them for scissors, I use mine on my work planner, my sis uses it for her purse zipper pull. Enjoy ladies!
Thanks to Lisa for being such a lovely hostess and thanks to everyone for entering my drawing!! I've had a lot of fun, it sure helped me get through all those cold snowy days.

A package

There was a package waiting for me when I came home yesterday! Well 3 packages actually, but the funnest was from Rebecca of Thrifty Goodness.

She sent some lovely vintage fabrics, a hotplate, an apron, a towel, pillow cases and cloth napkins, some with lovingly made hand stitching. Look at that, I'm seeing those blues and greens coming back big time now! Very retro, Very fun, very sweet. thank you Rebecca!

Have we had enough yet! I woke up this morning looking at white again. We have flowers popping out of the dirt and we still get snow. WHAT HAPPENED TO GLOBAL WARMING!
MARCH 21 is coming soon!!!! My daughter is flying in all the way from Phoenix to help me pick the winner for the OneWorldOneHeart giveaway! Well, she's coming in for a fun visit and I've volunteered her to help me get all the names written down on paper and her hand will draw the winner.
She's already been complaining about the 90+ degrees days they have out there. She'll really have something to complain about when she gets here. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. In fact home looks pretty good usually when you get to the other side. -- OH -- maybe I should listen to my own preaching for once. I'm looking at the green grass on the other side too. Guess I'll just enjoy what I have and leave well enough alone!
We are going up to Canada for a girl trip Sun - Tues so I won't be blogging. Anne my daughter, my sis and myself - up to Toronto for a night, then a night in Niagara Falls on the way home. See you in a few days.

I have a technical job and it requires some training throughout the year just to keep up with the new stuff. This week I'm in training again, then I'll skip a week and go through another week of training. Then sometime in April I'm expecting to be enrolled for yet a third week of training. But, if it wasn't scheduled through work, I probably wouldn't put much effort into it -- HOWEVER, when it comes to beads :) I am constantly reading magazines, books and internet articles on beadwork. Anything I can get my hands on about learning new techniques, color combos or tools and how to use them - I'll read it. I came home from work today exhausted from trying to learn all the instructor is showing us in class and the first thing I look at is.... yep, my bead books from the library. I have such a thirst to learn about and work with beads.

I treated myself to a new toy with my tax money. I bought myself a new heart rate monitor with GPS - it is sooo cool. Yesterday it was still 67 when I got home, so I strapped on my heart rate monitor and watch and started walking, this thing has so many bells and whistles I brought the little instruction book with me so I could try to figure out what buttons to push. It'll be a blast when I start doing my running training outside.

A touch of spring hit us today. A sample of what's to come. Just a teaser. We reached 68 degrees today. I went out and walked a bit at lunch and got hit with spring fever so I stopped at the mall on the way home to find a fun spring top. I found a top with a 3/4 length sleeve that I like, button down shirt style. My point is I'm amazed, I can remember some lime greens and bright oranges but -- is that it??

On the bright side, watching the sun set later just lightens the heart, plus we have bulbs popping through the dirt. Come on out little bulbs, the sun is here.

Gooood mornin', good Mornin...

Do you know what time it is....

I'm not sure exactly who the time change affects....

But it does affect those of us on Eastern time. So now the sun will set a little later in the day , giving us longer days! It will still be dark in the morning - but I don't care about that - I'm usually just going to work anyway.

It also means that now I'm 3 hrs difference in time from my daughter in Arizona - they don't mess with a time change.

It also means that while I was sleeping, I lost an hour of playtime. So I've got to make the most of the rest of the day. My sis is coming over today so we can do beadwork together - I think I'll make some gingersnap cookies this morning so we can have some with tea later.

Here are a couple of new pieces that I've recently finished. Fresh off the presses, not even tagged for sale yet.

Bless my stars

I knew it! I was having so many issues with my computer, I actually thought about looking to see if Mercury had gone retrograde and sure enough it was. Finally, with a breath of fresh air, I just found out that Mercury has gone direct. We should all have a lot less computer problems now. I've been working on one project at work that just couldn't catch a break. everytime we turned around some fix was breaking something else, or a server would go down, or the test scripts weren't working. Looks like we can look to finishing up the project now. phew. No wonder one of the tests we ran today went so smoothly. It was painless. Welcome back Mercury!

I think I've found the camera I'm going to buy. It's a new Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 - in Pink. It won't be released for sale until May. I'm hoping someone will review before then and give it a glowing report. I was going to buy the Sony Cybershot DSC-W50, but for $50 more the W80 has a lot more spunk, as long as the photo quality is as good as the W50. I may just wait until June to buy it to see how the reviewers rate it. Gary says I've spent more time researching camera's than I did researching for my new car. ya, well, I guess that's true. oh well.

Breathing down my back

Spring is coming, it's almost hear. I can feel it breathing down my back. Even if I did wake up with another 4 inches of snow on my driveway!! So I'm more determined than before to get in shape for the races coming up. We are signed up for the Cleveland Rite Aid 10k - Thousands of people show up in Cleveland for this since it also include a full 26k run- I'm not that strong. We are also training for a mini-triathlon so we're still swimming twice /week. However.... I won't do the swim race in a lake - only in a pool -- so if we don't find a mini-triathlon that has a pool, I'll step down to a bi-athlon, just the run/bike race. That'll be just as much fun for me. It still means more training anyway I look at it. so today it was a 1/2 hr run and 1/2 on the stationery bike, with situps and crunches. No rest for the wicked!

Home sweet home

This was a fun bracelet to make. I love the color in it! Sometimes I like my work so much it's hard to take it to the consignment shop and turn it in. then when it sells, I feel bad that I didn't keep it for my self. I always say I can make another, but I usually don't make exactly 2 of the same piece. something changes. That's why I named my work - Snowflake Arts.

I worked from home today. Here is my home office. On the left is the desk I use for 'work'. I set up my laptop there and just dial-in (we have cable. dial-in is just a figure of speech) on the right is my play desk. Here is where I blog and surf.

This is a closeup of my play desk. Yes, that's Barbie on the left - she's a paper doll keeping me company. My 25 year old daughter keeps asking me when I'll grow up. I don't see it happening anytime time soon. I'm too busy having fun.

I have a head of David in my foyer - he's solid stone - so he's there for good. I love him. He guards my front door - only letting friends and family in. I throw him kisses as I come and go - and see him smile, even through his look of concern. If my house was bigger, I might have put the rest of his body in there too! HA. Well, with the excitement of Spring coming soon and our One Heart giveaway on Ostara, the Vernal Equinox (also known as Lady Day), I dressed David up for the occasion. If you click on the picture, you can see his head wreath and necklace of green.

Here is the new technique I've been working on. It's a spiral rope. I train myself on larger beads. Once I have the skill a bit more uniformed, I'll move to a smaller bead. I've seen some really pretty necklaces made with this style. It's a new challenge to keep my skills up.

If you haven't heard by now... on March 21 (or sometime around then) to celebrate our Universal blogging friendships there will be a grand scale Spring to anyone who wishes to do so...! The creativity and generosity that I've seen on the giveaway links is awesome, astounding. If you would like to read more about it and see the list of everyone giving away a prize go here - ONE World ONE HeART Giveaway. This is my first giveaway that I am participating as a giver. Already the anticipation is thrilling. Just leave me a comment if you would like to be added to my drawing.

On the evening of March 21st I will pick 2 winners. I will be adding an additional prize for each winner, but just for fun - I won't show them until after the drawing.
The first winner will get the two gifts on the left. They are a book thong and a braided-beaded keychain. The second winner will win the book thong on the right. Click on the picture to get a better look.

Swim lane

We swam another 1/4 mile today. The water starts out cool, but after a couple of laps it feels like a liquid blanket. My arms and legs get tired and my lungs are heaving, but my brain says YES, this feels good. keep going! How refreshing the water is, how soothing, how relaxing. I'll be sad when my membership runs out, I'm not sure we'll renew again until next winter. Now that spring is here, I'm ready to start jogging and bike riding. Let's get physical, physical.....

I've been trying to learn a new beading technique - a spiral rope. I had a few false starts but a bracelet is finally starting to appear out of thread and glass. Since this is my first try at it, the piece isn't as tight and sharp looking as it should be but it'll still be fun for me to wear. I'll have to practice a lot more before I have a piece good enough to sell. I'll take a photo of it tomorrow night. It's too late to mess with the camera and photoshop. goodnight all.
