We went to the library yesterday. I just love books. I came home with an armload. I got 4 books on beading, 2 fiction, 1 mystery, 1 diet book, a vegetarian magazine and a wonderful book on cooking called "The Kitchen Diaries" by Nigel Slater. OOOHHH, There is so much fun to be had and not enough hours in the day. I'm going to have to focus on becoming independently weathly so I can stay home and play.

We watched two movies on Sunday that I can gladly recommend. One is new and one is old. The Illusionist and Hitch. Both were great.

I've been having a lot of trouble with my wireless connection at home. it's taking 1/2 hr just to get connected, then there's no promise the connection will hold. I'm ready to go back to cable.

A sense of energy

There's a rippling of energy in the air. I can feel it. inside. my shoulders, arms, tummy - anticipation. excitement. Is it just my senses preparing for spring. I don't know. yesterday while standing in the kitchen creating my grocery list, I stopped and turned to Gary and said "I feel like pizza tonight - does pizza sound ok to you?" 30 seconds/maybe 1 min. later my phone rings and my sister asks if we'd like to join them for pizza tonight. I am a receiver. Whatever it is, it feels good.

This is the thermometer in our kitchen. It reads outside 8.8 degrees and INSIDE 48.4. Last night just as we were getting ready for bed we noticed it was a bit cold in the house. Gary checked the furnace and saw a little red light blinking on it. Too late to call the furnace man so I put an extra blanket on the bed and slept in my long johns, tops and bottoms with my wool hiking socks. I stayed comfy warm while I slept. gettting out of bed was torture! I'm going to have to keep moving today to stay warm so I guess the house will get tidied up - maybe even my loft.
Blackie the Crow sits on my craft table and watches me closely. He was a gift about 6 yrs ago. I think it was supposed to be one of those 'weird' gifts but it was love at first site. you can't tell in the picture but he's life size. 8" tall, 14" long, 15" around his belly. He's been around so long, his feathers are molting - I don't think I can fix that.

This is my loft again - ceiling views. You can see my pegboard loaded up with beads - some are finished goodies, some are strings of beads waiting to be loved. Those are seagulls flying around above.

I love my birds.

This is my other desk in the loft. I use it for paper work and some small painting projects. I've got cups of paint brushes, watercolors and colored pencils. That black thing is a jewelry display card. Hanging from the ceiling are hummingbirds and butterflies.

String Theory

This is my work area. I always have some work in progress going so it's rarely completely cleaned up.
I have a small area in our loft - I actually have a desk and a table up there along with my shelves to hold my beading supplies. Tomorrow I'll show you my ceiling. It's filled with birds in flight.
I keep a large supply of beads on hand. so many that I'm using floor space.

I also have a peg board set up next to the shelves that holds more strings of beads and finished projects.

The Slacker

I have to admit, I've been slacking on my running program. I stop by Dawn's blog and feel guilty and motivated at the same time. I have picked up speed walking with a buddy at work for 20-30 min. during an afternoon break, but I don't think the walking is enough. I'm back on the health food train - and glad to be here. It already feels like home. Now I just have to make friends with my treadmill again and all will be right with the world. I think part of my lack of motivation could be from the lack of sun - and we went over a week without really getting sunshine. sheesh, a girl's gotta have something to blame right? and I can't blame Gary on my lack of motivation, it just won't fly.

Working my way up

There is a group of artists (Finding Water) that have committed to a 12 week study that will help enrich their creativity. I envy their ability to commit - I am on the verge of joining and yet I just can't do it. it's a big commitment that I would take seriously and then feel awful if I dropped out. They will work and struggle and come out glorious on the other side - I wish them all good luck and fun.

Happy Fat Tuesday to all! I celebrated the day with a margarita before dinner. We took an excellent picture of a huge green drink but managed to delete it before I could get it on my blog. Any way, I've had my alcohol, came home and had a couple pieces of dark chocolate and tomorrow starts a time of mending and building.

Ever since I came home from my Phoenix weekend visit, I've been slacking on the health foods. I've eaten a lot of junk in the last two weeks and I can already feel the difference. I've had little nagging headaches, stuffy nose and a feeling of laziness. It's not the flu - I'm not sick. Just feeling the sludge that I've put into my body.

I'm going back to Marilu Henner's plan that I did in January. After one week I started feeling clean inside and had more vitality, vim and vigor. I miss that healthy feeling. I don't even like meat, yet I shrug and eat it when it's placed in front of me - how irresponsible. It's time to be more self-caring.

Fun Surprise

When I got home yesterday I found a package waiting for me that I won in the drawing from Pam at Art and Soul. The pic of the kitten card hanging does not do it justice. It is darling! Thanks for the other goodies to Pam. I hope you got yourself that Lip Balm it smells divine - white chocolate and raspberry and feels great going on. I had a cup of tea you sent and raised a mug to thank you.

Since it just keeps snowing, we decided to go out and have some fun it in. If you can't beat it, join it. These are pictures of a park by our library- one of my favorite haunts.

my library is through the covered bridge on the right. there are cars parked in front of it.

the snow is almost up to my knees.

here's Gary trying not to trip in the deep snow - and he's taller !

If that wasn't enough - we woke up to a heavy snowfall again this morning. I still haven't tired of watching it fall. It's just beautiful.

Oatmeal vs. oatmeal

I woke this morning with a taste for some hot, stick to the ribs, good for me oatmeal. Sadly, my favorite kind, steel-cut oats, didn't have enough in the tub to make a pot, so I decided to cook what we had - Gary's favorite - quick cooking, one minute, old fashioned oats (I like them for making cookies).

It looks like shaved sawdust in the tub and when I cooked it up it looked like cooked sawdust. I couldn't do it, I couldn't eat it. Steel-cut oats have great flavor and a wonderful consistency. I couldn't do plain mush, not even for a day.

So I opted for some cold cereal swimming in soy milk. Probably not as good for me, but my mouth was happier. Time to go shopping - the cupboards are getting bare.

Looking to spring

Long winter days and short sun time is really hard on a body. As I hop along my favorite reads, I hear so many of them feeling run down and struggling to be their happy selves.

In an effort to fight off the dole-drums I have upped my fruit intake and I've also started taking sub-lingual (sp?) vitamin B-12. I hope you all feel better out there - keep exercising! and eat fresh! everyday try to have some greens and beans. it's very, very important. and don't forget the cure-all CHOCOLATE. DARK CHOCOLATE (yum) is also very, very good for you. 1 small ounce/day and you'll feel better and have something to look forward to. It works for me anyway :)

I've starting working on my Spring season jewelry. I'm working with pastels this season, which is very different for me, but I feel drawn to it right now. Pale aqua's, pale mint greens, lavenders and lt blues. Here's one, I'll post more another day - the lighting was awful when I took the last set of pictures - even my white paper background looks pink. All the colors of my jewelry are slightly off in the photos, this one came out the best.

another snow day

It snowed all day - this is Gary's third time out to shovel today - trying to keep up with it. Funny thing is, we have snow plow service. Gary likes to be outside so much, he tries to get the drive shoveled before the snow plow shows up and takes away his fun.

I helped this time - by the time we got to the end of the driveway, we could've started shoveling again! we went for a walk around the neighborhood instead. It's so pretty in the evening when the snow falls. Didn't have to go on the treadmill tonight with the workout I had outside.

Snow fall so far is only about 8" - 10" so far, but since it's supposed to snow all night, he wanted to make sure he could get out of the driveway in the morning. Not me - I'm planning on working from home tomorrow. One of the bennies of having a techie job.

Monday, Monday

Such a drag, back to work. Some day I will use my laptop to hold my very own work- pics of my creations, my bead purchases and ideas for more bead creations. until then, it's off to work I go and dream of Friday @ 5:00. Oh well, I'm not really complaining. It's a good job and I live well.

Everyone in the pool

I started swimming again today. my toe felt fine, it was my arms that got tired! It's amazing to me how fast muscles lose their strength when I take time off from my workouts and how long it takes to rebuild that strength. I still need to work on my breathing rhythm too. Even though it was 20degrees F outside it still felt great to swim in the heated pool.

Then after some grocery shopping, I cleaned my bedroom & bath, cooked dinner and ate - here I am playing in the blogs -

Now I have time to make a cup of Earl Gray decaf and play with my beads. I love to listen to the classical radio station while I work on my craft. it's very relaxing. Good Night Moon.

A Great Day

What a great day I've had!

It started off with a package arriving from RaNae, my pink and brown swap buddy. What wonderful things RaNae can create with her own hands! She knitted an absolutely beautiful, soft, warm scarf - it'll come in handy in our cold Ohio winters. Plus some pretty crocheted 'dishcloths'. RaNae - these are way to pretty to use as dishcloths. Maybe I'll use them to set my teapots on. Plus some hair clips and ponytail bands AND some BEADS!
thank you so much RaNae - it's all wonderful.
THEN - I went to check my email a bit later and checked my blog while I was at it and MrsNesbitt had left me a note to say I won a prize for being close the the 13,000th visitor on her site!! YEAH! lucky 13 for me!

Ready, set, go

Here's is how I started my morning.
1/2 banana, 1/3 cup blueberries, 2 scoops protein powder(vanilla), fill to top with soy milk.

It's yummy and filling and that plus some coffee will hold me till lunch. Since I haven't eaten animal protein in a while (I do on a very limited basis), I decided to boost my protein with a little help from Kashi. this powder has 29g Protein for 2 scoops. That'll get my protein requirements for the day - now I can plan on making on delicious veggie soup for dinner. I love hot, brothy soups on cold winter nights with big hunks of crusty bread. ok - I love food - so I have to choose carefully.

My toe is almost totally healed now.
Today I must start back to my workout routines. I'll take it easy and just walk 3 miles today - tomorrow will be a swim session and Monday a stationary bike ride. Tuesday a 4 mile walk day - then I'll venture a short run on Wednesday and see how the toe holds up.

Hopefully I can then resume my running training program for the Cleveland Marathon 10k in May!

Working girl

When I get home from work - I relax by working with beads. Here are some pieces ready for Valentines.

I sell my goodies(bracelets, necklaces and earrings) at a consignment shop a mile away from my home. It's close enough so I can continuously change my pieces to keep my space updated and fresh looking.

Back home

I'm back to a freezing 8 degrees. It felt good to warm my bones in Phoenix. I flew there on Saturday-our first stop was my daughters classroom.

she teaches 28 First graders! I helped her scrub all their little desks! Then I recorded a book on tape for them to listen to in their reading groups as they follow along in their books.

These are the kisses I helped her color to decorate her bulletin board with their papers.

We hiked a trail at Thunderbird Park.

We stopped for air and water half way up.

We had a lot of fun together. My visit was short but very, very sweet.

Phoenix Time

I'm having a great time visiting with my daughter in Phoenix. The time change is still hard to get used to. I wake up 2 hrs earlier than everyone else here. Fixed my daughters computer yesterday so I can play on it now until she wakes up. Boy did I pick a good weekend to leave town. When I called home, Gary said it was 2 degress outside !! yikes. the windchill made it minus 20 !! and here in Phoenix today we plan on hiking in a bright, sunny and balmy 80 degrees. I sure lucked out with a good weekend to come here and visit. It is so strange to wake up and see palm trees and cacti everywhere with mountains in the background. I'm sorry now that my vacation will be so short. I'll be back home and shivering away by tomorrow night. I'm taken some great pictures out here that I'll post when I get back.

Drawing fun

I've had so much fun tonight. I was thinking it was like an adult version of Trick or Treat - but the Speckled Egg had a more apt definition - it's like a treasure hunt! First I started out at Janet's Just bee-cause site and found her Valentine give away. Then I went to Art Tea Life and found a whole list of fellow bloggites having valentine giveaways. It's a wonderful way to find so many talented artist sites out there in blog land. I want to link to them all, but if I list them all I'd never get through my list every day! It's so fun getting lost in the blogs for an evening. much more fun than watching TV!
