Buying power

There are two purchases I'm contemplating. I don't need either one but they're at the top of my goodies wish list.
1. a heart rate monitor that downloads data to the computer so you can see the graphics and track your workouts. The one I'm coveting is like the one that Dawn on the run uses on her site. The only thing I've picked up about it is that it's a Garmin. I've got to start researching the new heart rate monitors to see what's out there. Mine is a Polar, but it's a pretty basic one. Might be time to upgrade.
2. a new camera. one of those small, slimmer versions that I can wear on a lanyard when I'm out bike riding. I'm gonna research those too.

Well, my 30 day Marilu Henner Total Makeover is completed. I feel great. I don't feel any need to cook a side of beef either! don't miss the heavy meat eater feeling. My body doesn't process meat that easily anyway. So I'm going to continue eating fresh for awhile longer. There are sooo many good cookbooks and recipes for vegans and vegatarians out there now, it seems unnecessary to eat products injected with anitbiotics and growth hormones. Who knows what that stuff can do to a body! Eat Fresh!!

Snow Day

Here's our backyard - while it's still snowing. I love to watch the snow fall. Of course.... I'll be in Phoenix this weekend visiting my daughter in 70 degrees!!! It's easy to enjoy the freezing cold when I know I'll get my bones warmed up this weekend. yippee!!

Try Day - A Magical Wish

Over at Create a Connection Saturyday's Try Day message is this:
"I'd like to ask you to make a wish (as many as you'd like) and to support each other's wishes. It's very simple. Just post on your blog something you really, truly, deeply (and maybe even secretly) wish for and leave a comment here to let us all know that you've done so. Then everyone who is participating .... and anyone who sees this post, please go to each and every one of our wishes and in the comments write, 'As _____ wishes for herself, so I wish for her also.' Encourage people to go over and do the same."
There is great power in knowing our dreams, in saying them out loud, in having them witnessed and in the shared enthusiasm of believing in and hoping for each other.
Sooo.... first if you do send me your wishes - make them to Diana (my real name) - plongstocking is just my adventure loving namesake.

My wish... (and I hope it doesn't sound to selfish)
I wish to be healthy, wealthy and wise - I wish to have a lot of money so I could stop working and still live in the way I am accustomed to. To be able to afford health insurance without having to use it and without having to work just to have it. To be able to spend my days at the library or the craft supply shops or the health food market - just where ever my adventurous self takes me for the day. to take long stretches of vacations in warm, sunny places. To go visit my daughter, to watch my grandchildren grow.
To live a full and happy glorious life!
I know it's a mouthful, but it's my wish.

Missing me

Here's my lonely exercise area. I'm out of commission for at least a week and all my exercise buddies are just waiting quietly for me to come back. I was just getting my routine in order - now I'll have to start over!

We're getting snow here in Ohio. It's really pretty outside while the snow is falling. very peaceful. goodnight all.

Thursday Photo Day

Here is the picture I submitted for Photo Thursday. The challenge was candlelight.

Road block

My foot was bothering me this week, so I went to the foot doctor yesterday. I left his office an hour later with 2 stitches in my toe. I had a bone of one toe rubbing against the bone of another in such a way to cause me great pain when I wore 'office' shoes. My foot did not hurt in running shoes. So he cut into a toe and shaved down a bone to stop the rubbing. So now I'm out of commission for exercising for at least one week. He said to take it easy until the stitches come out. The only I've come up with is that I can still do my weights and pilates roll ups and crunches. I just hate to lose the fitness momentum I was building with increasing my running endurance. One week off can slow me down a bit, if he says to take a second week off of running it'll mean back to the beginning for me. It always amazes me how fast the muscles lose their strength.

A little at a time

Did swimming practice today. I'm starting to figure out the breathing technique. I actually was able to do 1 full lap breathing correctly. Well, not totally correctly probably, but I didn't have to stop for air this time. This time I worked at taking a breath for every other stroke - always my right side. It works better than waiting for two strokes before breathing - I kept running out of breath that way. practice, practice, practice. I see a little improvement every time. I mean it really is a little, but it's still improvement. maybe one day it will all just come together and work right.

Eat Fresh!

There I was on my treadmill... watching Rachael Ray making a salad and chatting away. then she says... and I quote... "If you eat well, you can eat more!" ya Rachael - go girl. so I ran a little faster so I could finish my run sooner and go cook my own meal. A veggie burger with ginger carrots and rice. Eat Fresh !!

I'm a member of the Pink -n- Brown Swap that's currently in progress at the Thrifty Goodness blogsite. It's been a lot of fun getting to know my swap buddy, RaNae and planning out what to send in the swap. This is my second swap, they're really fun!

Got my 15 min. completed on my stationery bike today and 40 min. of Yoga. I have the Kripalu Dynamic Yoga DVD - it's amazing how it can be such a hard workout when all I'm doing is stretching and reaching and holding poses. I was exhausted and felt like I had a full workout by the time I finished today.
Then I made some homemade veggie soup for dinner - we had it with a crusty roll and hot peppers. yum. I love those hot peppers. We're having trouble finding our favorite brand lately. I'm going to have to write to the company and ask who else sells their peppers.

Trader Joe

These blueberries from Trader Joes were a wonderful surprise. The picture on the bag makes them look like tiny blueberries but when I poured some into my cereal bowl I found great big juicy ones! They are frozen and I haven't poured any soy milk over my cereal yet so I could show their size. Once they defrosted in the soy milk, making my milk even colder - yum - they had a great blueberry taste. I use them in my oatmeal too instead of raisons. And the cost at Trader Joes is very easy to swallow. I love Trader Joes - and I even have to drive 30 min. instead of 5 min. to my local grocery. I wrote to Trader Joes last week and asked if they would please open a store closer to where I live so I wouldn't have to drive so far - I hope they do!

Tagged for weirdness

My new blog buddy RaNae has tagged me for weirdness. It's fun to be tagged! The idea is to share 6 weird things about myself and tag 6 other bloggers.

***The rules:
Each player of this game starts with "6 weird things about you". Each person who gets tagged needs to write a blog post of their own 6 weird things as well as clearly state this rule. After you state your 6 weird things, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says "you're tagged" in their comments and tell them to read your blog for information as to what it means.**

1. I like to cut out things from magazines - pictures and sayings. I collect them and then cut out poster board into a circle and glue all my cutouts together.

2. I am slightly bow-legged. I've always felt weird in short skirts and mid calf skirts because they emphasize the shape of my legs.

3. I love to open up books and smell them. They can be old or new - I don't discriminate age when it comes to books! Magazines too.

4. I am a Foodie wanna be. I love to watch the Food Network channel and imagine myself cooking all the yummy stuff they make on there. I even like to watch the chef challenges they have - like cake decorating and candy making.

5. I collect snowflakes. At Christmas my house is filled with snowflakes hanging from entryways and snowmen everywhere. I have Swarovski snowflakes hanging in my kitchen windows to catch the sunshine and spread rainbow fragments all over the kitchen. I've even named my jewelry craft "Snowflake Arts".

6. I love BLING. All things sparkly and shiny. I can't get enough of it. From jewelry to hair clips, purses to clothing. I even added some rhinestones to my sunglasses because I couldn't afford the real ones from D&G or Vogue that I liked.

That is my 6 and now I get to tag 6 of my favorite reads to do the same thing.
Check out their great blogs!

Getting lost in the Blogs

One of my favorite Saturday/Sunday morning routines has become getting lost in the blogs. Have you ever done this? Start reading one of your favorite blogs, then click on one of their favorite blog sites which leads to another list of that persons blogs sites and on and on. I have found a whole world of interesting people just by getting lost in the blogs. I love it!

New Moon starts @ 11:01 pm eastern

The New Moon moves into Capricorn, Thursday January 18 11.01pm Eastern -- 8.01pm Pacific
That means it's time to make your new moon wishlist.
I received this article from Jenni Stone who rights articles for

New Moon Wish List - This is a powerful way of making your wishes known to the universe - it is the process of planting the seed so that your needs and desires become known. By writing, you are taking the first step towards creating your intention. The written word is the seedling and the page becomes your garden. Optimum time for writing the list is in the first eight hours after the New Moon - write your wish list and date it. Your list may consist of only one item or you may have several pages written down. Try not to limit yourself.

Leaving Wireless

I love EdenSoy! It tastes excellent. I've been able to substitute it for milk in my coffee and my cereal. The vanilla flavoring is wonderful. My sister bought me a case of Kirkland Soy milk and it's not vanilla, but it's still good. I don't miss milk in either one.

I have been having the toughest time lately with my wireless cable connection. I keep getting disconnected and then have to wait at least 1/2 hr before it can repair itself. here I thought I was doing good going wireless and it's caused me total frustration. Now I have to pull my computer apart to get it out of there so I can go back to cable supported. I HATE THIS WIRELESS thing !

Run down

I had such a good run yesterday. Now today, I got home from work really late and really starving. So by the time I heated up my soup, the last thing I wanted to do was exercise. Fortunately, my wonderful guy G. talked me into just getting on the treadmill and just walking for 30 min. I'm glad I did. everywhere I read about health it says to get at least 30 min. of some kind of exercise every day. even if it's just walking, just do it. So I did. now I won't feel guilty all evening. thanks G.

I'm also glad I had some leftover home made soup in the fridge. Guess I'll have to keep a bowl going all the time, it works great. Like I said, I was starving when I got home. I was ready to order a pizza and eat the WHOLE thing. The soup saved me. I heated up a couple of slices of multi-grain bread to dunk into it and dinner was served. filled me up as well as the pizza would have and -again- without the guilt. PHEW.

now I can enjoy the rest of my evening, doing whatever I want - and it won't include eating!! yeah!

Got home from work and ran my 2 miles and did the stationery bike for 2.5 miles. That stationery bike is a bear - it's a harder workout than my raleigh hybrid road bike. I was dripping after 15 on it! But it's DONE.

My dentist was in the newspaper today. His license has been suspended for a year because he was caught working on patients while drunk. Totally blasted, slurred speach and all. YIKES. I hope he hadn't been tipsy on the days he worked on me. Time to look for a new dentist !!

YEAH A THREE DAY WEEKEND !! happy weekend !

Got my pilates workout done today. It's so easy I can't believe I'm getting any benefit from it. The only part that feels any workout is my tummy and I can do that by just doing sit ups or crunches. I don't need all those fancy pilates moves if that's all the benefit I get out of it. I'll keep it on my once a week rotation for a while longer then I'll decide if it stays or goes.

It is freezing here in Cleveland, OH. Every other year or so my family gets together for beach house week at the Outer Banks, NC. So we are frantically trying to find the best house we can for our one week stay. we want an oceanfront house. we had one two years ago and it was wonderful. it's hard to go back to anything less than oceanfront. I love getting up in the morning. making coffee and watching the sun rise over the ocean. Then I go for a short run down the beach and back, hop on my bike and do a short ride down the sidewalk. by the time I get back everyone is up and moving. I'm the early riser in the family. I love the peace and quiet of early mornings. and my coffee.

Good as butter

I love this stuff. I was a bit hesitant about dropping dairy from my meal plans, but I'm finding some absolutely delicious replacements. I found Soy Garden butter spread in the organic foods refrigeration section of my Giant Eagle grocery store. It was great on my whole grain english muffin and just as good on my steamed brussel sprouts. It actually has a smooth butter feel and taste.

We went swimming last night to practice our laps for our mini triathlon. the people on TV make it look so easy and seamless to swim laps. I am struggling trying to get my breathing correct so I can just finish a complete length without stopping for air!! From here on, anytime I see a true swimmer I will give them a nod of respect. and by the time I finally finish 8 laps (1/4 mi) my arms and legs are aching too! I can't wait until this starts to get easier. I figure about 2 months of practice / we go twice a week and i should be able to at least complete 1 full lap with proper breathing. HA.

My scale broke just before Christmas, so after Christmas I returned a gift I couldn't use and instead purchase a new scale. This one displays my weight with AND body fat % and body water %. I like it. It's telling me to drink more water - and it's right. I really have been lax on my water intake. So I resolve to drink more water in '07. I have a plan. I will make some stretchy bracelets in pretty colors and place 4 of them on my left hand wrist. Every time I drink 8 oz I will move a bracelet from my left hand to my right hand. when I have 4 on my right on will start moving them back to my left hand. The object is to get all the bracelets back over to my left hand. It's an easy way to keep count. The tracking on the right is helping me keep to my resolutions so I will add my daily water count to it.

Thursday Photo Day

This is my entry for Thursday Photo Day .
The entry is for :
Sustenance: Something that gives support, endurance, or strength.
Think about something that keeps you going. Something that sustains you. Or something that sustains someone else.
Join in - adventure through life.

Keeping track

I've been faithfully keeping to my workout schedule - now if I don't start keeping track I know I'll be disappointed when I want to know how much I've done - run miles, pushups, situps etc. so my plan is to keep track. I've decided I'm going to use a listing on side to do this. It'll be very interesting to watch the numbers go up.

I've also cut back my dairy to almost zero. One tbl of coffee creamer is it. I tsp of sugar is it too. I'm feeling cleaner and lighter inside if there is such a thing. In only 6 days of cleaner, healthier plant based eating I can really already start to feel a difference. I can't wait to see how I feel in a month.

Resolution #4

2007 Resolution #4 - take more photos
This is my last resolution for 2007 - I have 2 cameras and I'm looking at purchasing a 3rd one. One that I can wear while I'm bike riding. I always want to take more photos but at the end of the day, I haven't. It's a habit thing - and a memory thing. I love the idea of people taking pics of the foods they eat and the fun they have. I would like to step up to that phase of photoing. I've joined a couple online photo groups to help me get starting. They look like fun !

Photo Friday

Here's my selection for Photo Friday - this week's challenge is 'sister'.
My 2 sisters and I went on vacation. This was taken in Siena, Italy, Oct 2006. My one sister said she hadn't seen so many nuns at once in a very long time and insisted on a picture with them. we had so much fun together. I highly recommend taking a vacation with your sisters if you have any. They have unconditional love - which we had to call upon when we took turns driving {{{ :) }}}

Done! I've committed myself. I have agreed with my sister to -

1. run the Cleveland Rite Aid Marathon -
well, we will do the 10k in the Marathon. I ran it last year for the first time. I just started running last year so that was a great accomplishment for me. This year, I will try to beat my personal time of 1:09 for the 10k. 1:09 isn't fast, but I finished. If I train enough I should be able to beat it.

2. do a mini triathalon -
this will be a first for me. Run 5k- Swim 1/4 mi- Bike 12 mi. I run and bike all summer anyway, the challenge will be the swimming. So we've agreed to meet at the rec center every sunday to start swim training. This will be a blast and quite an adventure !

Create a Connection

I've just found a wonderful website. Create a Connection. I've joined Monday Swap day, Thursday Photo day, and Saturday Try Day. It's definitely worth a look see. Get living. Get motivated. Take yourself on some adventures. LIVE - eat fresh !!

Resolution #3

2007 Resolution # 3 - Simplify - Love what I have
I have no intention of throwing everything away that I own, but I am going to make a concious effort to get rid of those items I have that I don't love and just keep because I don't like to throw out. If I don't use it now, if I haven't used it in 2 years, there's a good chance I'm not interested in it. Some things I have just because I love them even if I don't use them every two years. Those will not be thrown out, just the items that are not necessary in my life. It's the clutter I'm ridding. Time to take a step closer to simplifying.

I'm starting to feel better from the inside out. All the healthy food I've been eating is starting to take affect. I haven't had any wine/beer/alcohol since new years eve. I've cut down to a tablespoon of sugar a day (coffee) and no white stuff. I can actually feel the difference. Plus I've been doing some kind of exercise for at least 30 min. every day. Today it was 45 min of yoga (I use the Kripalu Dynamic DVD - LOVE IT) then 10 min. on the stationery bike. Feeling better every day.

Resolution #2

2007 Resolution #2 - Get Fit and Stay Fit. I started running last year. I ran 5k's and even a 10k. I even helped my sister train for the half marathon and was running 6 and 7 miles at a time. THEN I went on vacation in october and stopped all forms of exercise. I even stopped walking when we got back. Two days ago, I started running again. I ran 2 miles and didn't think I could finish. I finished but I haven't been able to walk straight without muscle pain since. I'm not going to let that happen again. Once I get back in shape, I'm staying there. Even on vacation. no more slacking this year. it takes forever to get back into shape and it takes so little time to lose all that good muscle. So resolution #2 is a definite GO.

Resolution #1 - Eat Healthy

2007 Resolution # 1. Eat Healthy. I will follow Marilu Henner's 30 day Total Makeover Plan for the month of January. She stresses food combining with a mostly vegetarian plan - she adds in fish. But no meat or dairy. After the plan is over, I intend to proceed with a part vegan/part vegetarian plan - I will continue to eat fish. But I will have less sugar in my body and a LOT less growth hormones and animal antibiotics and less of food chemicals that I can't even pronounce. I will EAT FRESH !

Tuesday, January 02, 2007

This is fun. It took awhile to get my blog set up. I have decided to add my new years resolutions to my blog. I've had some ideas rumbling around in my head for a few days, I should have them sorted out by tomorrow. This took longer than I thought to set up, so I'm done for the night.
